PENNRAIL Roster - Locomotives

*Other equipment coming soon* (some partially on the paint pages, and there is a working draft on freight.html in this same directory)

The following roster summary is taken from a draft article for MR that was written in 1997:

Pennrail's locomotive fleet is largely second-hand. Some have been painted in PR's green/yellow, and some still remain in their predecessor's colors.  PR rosters 10 SD45s, ex-BN, and all but one have been repainted.  These are the heavy road power, used on all but the express trains.  They run in pairs, and can sometimes can be seen as a quartet.  The express trains ride behind one of the pairs of GE C40-8s.  Pennrail's latest acquisition is a GE wide-nose unit, which has been paired with an SD60 on lease from Conrail.

Locals are handled by EMD Dash-2 power, most noteably PR's fleet of four GP38-2 purchased new from EMD in 1987*.  Seen in dedicated coal service are a pair of former Chessie GP35s still in vermilion.  Also common are leased locomotives, as PR is often power short.

Yard duties vary by location.  Lock Haven rates a pair of SW7s that once belonged to the Pennsy.  Bellefonte has the former BFC SW7s rescued from Tennessee. They are maintained by the UP&E shops, and see occasional duty.  They were recently donated to the local historical society.  A single PR SW1500 is a more common sighting.  Buffalo rates three MP15ACs, purchased new**.

For its business and inspection train, PR owns an SDP45-2F.  Rumor has it that this engine has been sold to a line in Connecticut, but remains in PR green/yellow.

*Turns out that 1987 was the last production year for the GP38-2 (5-21-06)

**The MP15ACs were bought shortly after PENNRAIL acquired the northern segment of the Buffalo line.
