Bald Eagle DivisionThe track chart above represents the Bald Eagle Division as it was modeled by the PSMRRC from 1985-1997.Division OperationsIn 1987, Pennrail maintained a dispatcher in Lock Haven that managed the Bald Eagle Division and the Lock Haven Division simultaneously, and the two shared a single Yardmaster for Lock Haven Yard. The division rated a daily local, from Lock Haven to Vail and Back, and hosted some through traffic, mostly coal from Cumberland to Williamsport and empties back, but some general merchandise traffic is also seen on the Cumberland to Buffalo routing. A write-up, by an as yet anonymous author, exists on the day of the crew of the Division local that was written in 1997.
Division HistoryThe PRR's Bald Eagle Branch today is owned by SEDA-COG, and operated by the Nittany and Bald Eagle. Prior to the Conrail breakup, Conrail owned the northern and southern portions of the branch, and ran through trains on an as needed basis. Today, NS uses the branch as a cut-off, but with less frequency than in CR days. The Bellefonte Historical used to run RDC excursions on the branch. For PENNRAIL Purposes, the extant portion of the Bellefonte Branch is considered to be UP&E/Pennrail joint-owned. Today it is in the same arrangement as the Bald Eagle Branch, and includes the remnant of the branch as far as Lemont, with industries at Pleasant Gap and the outskirts of State College. |
